   Merry Tubachristmas  (11/20/2006 11:24 pm)

I went out with Mom to see this year's local Tubachristmas event the other day. It was fun, but only in Redmond Town Center do you have to deal with the lovely road through the performing space.

You can watch one of the songs below, enjoy!

Sonic the Piņata  (11/17/2006 11:08 pm)

After a lull of new games, the festive season is upon us, and everyone's trying to get their games out soon to get them wrapped up as gifts. Doing my part for consumerism, I picked up Viva Piņata and Sonic the Hedgehog recently for the 360.

Viva Piņata is indeed full of fun. It's obviously a game that's geared towards kids, but it has enough depth to keep me engaged.

Sonic, on the other hand, is as broken as the little statue that it came with. I love the Sonic franchise, but they've managed to ship a completely broken game. I'll give it another go in a few days, but I had to call it quits before I broke something out of frustration. Not surprisingly, it looks like they didn't fix any of the problems with the demo they released a few months ago.

Back to my garden full of Whirlms, Sparrowmints, and Fudgehogs.

Instant runoff voting in Pierce County  (11/16/2006 12:12 pm)

Voters in Pierce County did something I thought I'd never see around here: The voted to try out instant runoff voting.

Here's a reasonable explanation of how it works. I'd like to see instant runoff voting spread, but I fear it's too complex a process to ever be used on a wide scale when we can barely make our current voting system work.

   Babylon 5 Returns  (11/14/2006 11:37 am)

Warner Home Video announced they've begun production on a direct-to-DVD release of Babylon 5.

I loved Babylon 5, and I'm really happy to see news that some new stories will be making it my way some day.

   Most expensive mail-in ballot  (11/10/2006 5:35 pm)

There have been a lot of stories around here of mail-in ballot oddities, but I think this
story from Florida has to trump them. Someone sent in a ballot with an exceptional rare stamp on it. Since the ballot is unsigned, we may never know the story behind it, but I'd love to know why they did they either used a rare stamp, or went to the trouble to forge one.

The Trojan Xbox  (11/6/2006 6:37 pm)

Speaking of TV, after some rumors around this, it's officially been announced that you'll be able to
watch TV shows on your Xbox 360.

While I'm not super excited about the initial line-up of shows, this is a very cool development. It'll be my first foray into video on demand type service, though I'm not super excited about trying to stuff all of this onto the Xbox 360's smallish hard drive. The press release above mentions a few movies will be making their way onto this service. If they actually release on or near the DVD release window, Netflix might be in for some serious competition.

Comcast and Online Video  (11/6/2006 4:29 pm)

I suppose it was inevitable with the evolution of TV, but
Comcast is launching a video web site like YouTube. The twist? Videos on this site might end up on an on demand service.

That reminds me, I haven't bothered to check out "Current TV" in a while. I wonder if they've managed to get more than a sliver of any viewer ship.

This year my attempt at a Halloween pumpkin failed miserably, so you'll have to contend yourself with our attempt at Halloween themed cookies.

Perhaps the funnies part of this is that we actually managed to create cookies that look more appetizing and visually appealing than the sample cookies they had on the box art. You'll just have to believe me on this.

Deep Fried Coke  (10/27/2006 11:36 am)

Whenever I'm with a group of people and we end up talking about bizarre fried foods, I tend to always make the joke that one should deep-fry a can of Coke.

Well, it seems like someone has finally managed to basically do this. My hat is off to Abel Gonzales, who created a deep fried Coke for the Texas State Fair. Now I need to come up with a more ludicrous food to joke about.

New Neighbors Coming  (10/21/2006 4:23 pm)

The house across the street from us appears to have finally sold. After a month of having a sign out front but no potential buyers coming by, the sign is now gone. If you asked me how owning a new home was going, this was the house I'd likely complain about the occupants of, till they moved away.

I can only hope the home owners don't use the home to run a small car-repair shop and decide that two in the morning is a good time to begin construction on a car-shed for their new limo. In other words, I just hope these neighbors aren't worse than the most inconsiderate neighbors ever.
