Because of this YouTube video, my next trip will be to Germany. I don't think I have a choice.

Lawmakers feel they must do something  (9/30/2009 1:23 pm)

Local lawmakers are now considering turning the secondary offense of talking on a cell phone while driving into a primary offense. They've apparently figured out that no one cares about a law if you make it unenforceable.

My question: Why? Since 1979, it's illegal to be a negligent driver. Clearly this law isn't being enforced, so how will yet another law help matters? This is a larger cultural issue that needs resolution that simple laws won't help. Sadly, lawmakers seem to see the solution to a problem as a new law.

Just for the record, I'd like to know who thought it'd be a good idea to offer a automated prescription refill service that automatically sends you 30 days of meds once a month? No, nothing could go wrong with a plan that sends you 360 days worth of meds in a year. Grr.

Since I have Crohn's, I've been told to avoid Aspirin. Additionally, I have to have fun-time regular checkups due to an increased risk of colon cancer.

Now, it turns out aspirin may help prevent colon cancer. I think I'll put the doctors behind this study and my doctors in a Mad Max-esque Thunderdome and let a battle determine which treatment advice I should follow.

   Colorblindness cure?  (9/17/2009 10:49 am)

Interesting: Scientists have developed a gene therapy that can be used to cure colorblindness.

It's on been demonstrated on animals, but it would be amazing for me to be able to see colors I've never seen.

Borlaug passes away  (9/13/2009 12:44 pm)

You may have never heard of him, but one of the world's true heroes, Norman Borlaug, passed away on Saturday.

He's perhaps responsible for saving the lives of more people than any other person. It saddens me that he won't get nearly the press coverage that people who entertained us get.

   Visualizing Time  (9/9/2009 6:57 pm)

I've been playing around with the concept of visualizing time recently. Maybe one day I'll even release the app I've been writing to the rest of the world, but for the time being: Does anyone have any interesting ways of visualizing time that I haven't run across yet?

I'm finally enjoying some time off, I'm sure in a week when I head back to work I'll be wondering where all the time went.

Maybe they'll make soda bottles illegal  (8/24/2009 6:04 pm)

It turns out it's pretty easy to make Meth with even the small amounts of pseudoephedrine that you can buy over the counter even with the most insane anti-meth laws.

I predict in one year you'll only be able to get Sudafed (at least, a version that works) via prescription.

   Aflac is a Joke  (8/18/2009 1:00 pm)

I'm sure the entire insurance industry operates like this, but I had a fun experience with Aflac:

"Will I be covered if event happens?"
"Most likely, it depends on your exact medical history and how hard you squint when you read the coverage."
"Here's my exact medical history, how does it apply?"
"I'm just a customer support rep; you're only allowed to talk to the claims adjusters when you actually make a claim, not now."
"So, you can't tell me if I'll be covered if event happens?"
"Correct."

It's easier to cancel than pay to play that particular game.
