Catcher in the Rye, The Author: J. D. Salinger Average Rating: ![]() Last Reviewed On: December 25, 2001 (by Scott) Scott's Review: ![]() This is yet another book I suppose I just don't get. It gets great reviews, and it's a classic everyone has heard of, if not read. I barely finished the stupid book though. It's basically the tale of an average middle class teenager trying to fit in and finding himself out of place wherever he's been shunted too. That, as far as I could tell, is it. He doesn't do anything particularly exciting or interesting throughout this book. It's just a tale about him trying to fit in and find is his place in the world, surrounded by "phonies". For me, it was a bit depressing, as I'm sure it's mean to be. Not necessarily because of the story, but just because of the inane writing style, and because I couldn't quite find whatever was so great in this book that everyone else finds. -- Scott and Michelle |
