Little did I know, before I saw this movie, I already liked it. I just needed to figure out why I liked it. Funny thing is, after watching it, I didn't like it.

It really struck me as rather bizarre. It doesn't pick up where the last movie left off. Most of what happens between the two is briefly mentioned in dialog, but not everything is. The whole movie feels different too. The first movie just had a certain, good cinematic feel to it; which is missing from this one. The special effects actually distract here as they're just over used. And the movie seems poorly cut. One should never have the thought "when will this scene end?" during a big action scene as is the case with the big highway scene.

Then there's the plot, which is probably what caused me to nit-pick for other things. Our intrepid hero, Neo really doesn't face any challenges in the Matrix, since he's god there. Great, let's present him with some mental challenges instead. Only, of course the mental challenges don't make sense, it just strikes me as last minute babble to fill in the script, like the technical explanations on Star Trek.

I'm trying my best to be hopeful for the next movie. For all I know I could just be suffering from expectations that are too big. Maybe they'll tie up the plot with some amazing action and story. I'm not too hopeful though.

Oh, and a post-script: I have to give credit to this movie for one thing. Trinity uses a real-life hack to break into a modern-era computer system. It was on the screen for all of about one second, but it was nice to see a real terminal, with a real security vulnerability, instead of MovieOS with guess-the-password-hack.
