Scott's Review:
4.5 out of 5 stars on December 17, 2005

First off let's get the biases out of the way: I'm a big fan of Firefly, the TV show this came from, and I've been looking forward to it for quite a while.

That said, if you're still willing to believe I could have an object opinion of this movie, I really, really, really liked it. I'd even go so far as to say it's the best new science fiction movie I've seen in the last five years.

The basic story of the movie picks up where the TV series left off. We follow the Alliance's attempt to recapture River, who's escaped from one of their 'research' facilities. Along the way, we learn a deep secret that the Alliance would rather keep buried (and, for that matter, why the Alliance cares about River so much). A few little other tidbits are tossed in to keep the fans happy. All in all, it's a great movie, set in a great universe, by a great screen-writer.

Can I push anymore praise on this movie? Maybe, but I didn't feel it was a perfect movie. Much of the plot felt a bit rushed, and while there were some lose ends that aren't terrible critical to the movie left over from the TV series, in annoys me quite a bit that the only way to fill in those missing gaps is to read a short comic-book series.

Finally, I apologize, but I just have to summarize my review of this movie with this four word review: This movie is shiny!
