   Sonic on the 360  (9/28/2006 1:40 am)

One of the games I've been looking forward to the most for the 360 is Sonic. I've been a huge fan of the franchise, and despite some people calling me overly-optimistic, I was sure Team Sonic would finally release a good 3D Sonic game that I could enjoy.

A demo of the game was released yesterday. Looks like the naysayers were right. The game sucks. Sonic is a great 2D platform game that can never seem to make the transition to 3D. I'm still careening off ledges at the slightest touch of the joystick and "homing" right in on empty space and my death because of the silly attack system. I'm really disappointed.

Ah well, I'll just be playing more Lego Star Wars II. That's a really fun game.

End-run around the Electoral College  (9/22/2006 1:29 pm)

While I've heard of various attempts to dismantle the Electoral College used for electing presidents, all of them have had no hope of actually coming to fruition for one reason or another.

This one, however, is different. It manages to do away with the electoral college without actually changing the constitution. Rather, it's an attempt to get individual states to direct their elector voters to vote however the majority of Americans do, regardless of the outcome in their particular state. Surprisingly, a bill to do just that is already waiting for Schwarzenegger's signature, having passed the California legislature.

I like the idea, and it's interesting, they don't actually need all 50 states to agree to it for it to become feasible.

Fairwood is losing the race  (9/20/2006 2:34 pm)

Assuming I'm reading
this page correctly, it looks like the special election to incorporate the area we live in into the City of Fairwood has failed.

What amazes me is the margin of failure. Right now it's sitting at 49.98% for and 50.02% against. With the number of ballots cast, that works out to a margin of one person. Personally I'm hoping there are some uncounted mail-in ballots out there. Time will tell, I guess.

Lost Clues Uncovered  (9/15/2006 5:04 pm)

This summer people have had a chance to play The Lost Experience online to uncover clues behind the TV show.

Well, it appears the game is coming to a close, and players of the game have been able to piece together the clues that it offered. If you're like me, you can enjoy the fruits of their labors just by watching the video below. It answers a few questions you might have from watching the show, but it leaves tons of questions open, and of course raises new questions.

   Programmer's Day  (9/13/2006 6:02 pm)

Happy
Programmer's Day everyone!

Okay, it's a silly "holiday". I'm mostly curious if anyone's ever actually heard of this before the Wikipedia article was created 2 months ago. Or perhaps it's someone's cute attempt to create a holiday through Wikipedia.

   TiVo Series 3  (9/12/2006 7:16 pm)

If you missed it in all the Apple hoopla today, TiVo has released their
Series 3 DVR to the world.

This is the long-waited version that can record HD programming from a cable source. It's also something I've been looking forward to.

Sadly, I think it's going to be a while till I get one. It looks like a great toy, but it's hardly something that's an impulse buy at $800 dollars, or over a thousand if you want to include pre-paid service. I'm sure it won't take too long for me to get fed up with watching standard-def programming on a pretty HD TV, and willing to spend that much money, but that time hasn't quite come yet.

   Baseball Race  (9/11/2006 12:17 pm)

One of the things that always fascinates me about Baseball is the shear amount of stats and different ways to view stats.

I ran across a new stat site, Baseball Race that lets you view a season's worth of games with the teams racing across to victory. It's disheartening to watch the AL West for this year and watch the Mariners struggle to keep ahead of the ominous "eliminate" line. I'll just have to watch the 2001 season.

Battlestar Galatica is back on  (9/5/2006 12:15 pm)

Before it officially kicks off its new season, Battlestar Galatica is airing
10 new "webisodes" over the next few weeks.

It's really just one episode split up into little web-sized pieces, but it's still nice to have some new Battlestar Galatica episodes to wet my appetite.

The XNA tools have been released. You can download the
XNA kit, and Visual C# Express here and start writing games yourself.

Once I have some free time and get this all figured out, you can look forward to seeing Scott Seligman's Quackers coming to an Xbox 360 near you :)

Yep, it's been a while since I've posted to my web-log. Sorry about that, between life, work, and random other stuff I've been way too busy to have anything interesting to say here.

Since I'm busy at work shipping the next great product, you'll just have to be patient with my delays. In the meantime, enjoy our latest episode of Fantasy Football Lounge.
